Reading 'Neverwhere', a fantasy novel, on the tube becomes much more realistic than reading it at home. The sheperds in 'Sheperd's Bush', breakfast with one of the 'Seven Sisters', meeting the earl of 'Earl's Court' while driving through those tube stations.. that's exciting :) Even the regularly heard sentence "Mind the gap!" gets another denotation, thinking of the wind living in the gap which tries to pull you under the trains...
I left the house before 9am today because I had a job interview in Hendon Central at 10am so I had much time to read on the tube.
The interview was with Gen122 services as a room attendant. I found the address but the agency's name was nowhere to be seen. I called the telephone number - voicemail. I send a text message.. and received the reply after my interview. I went into the copy shop to ask if it was the correct address. The man sent me to a small office where a woman was talking on the phone and seemed quite puzzled to see me. I introduced myself, told her I had an appointment at 10am and asked her if I was right. She gave a form to fill out and then offered me to attend a training tomorrow which would cost me 50 pounds. But she guaranteed me a job as a room attendant in a 4 or 5* hotel in central London although she wasn't even able to tell the time the training starts. I said I'd call her back cuz I need to think about it. Considering all the circumstances, I don't think I will pay that money and attend the training. In addition to the unprofessional impression, I'd only be paid the minimum wage which is £5.80 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older and I think it's weird to pay money before earning money..
After that job interview, I had to kill the time till my appointment at the Jobcentre Plus in Tooting to apply for the National Insurance Number which was at 2.30pm. I went to Charing Cross station, walked past Trafalgar Square to Piccadilly Circus and had a hot chocolate at Starbucks, reading Neverwhere again. Having rummaged through the shelves at HMV, I went to Tooting Bec.
The interview was okay, I didn't have to answer many questions. An elderly lady filled in my application form and copied my passport, ID, proof of address and proof of looking for a job and let me sign a few things. My NINo should arrive within the next 2 or 3 weeks.. I asked her about the job training and she said if I have doubts about it, I shouldn't pay the money.
While waiting to get my passport etc. back, I received a call from Cineworld. We arranged a job interview for tomorrow 12.30pm :) I have another interview at 10am at the spaghetti house. Hopefully I'll be more succesful than today! At tuesday, I'll have 3 hours of assessment at Eat.. They called me yesterday and I did fine at the phone interview.
I called a few more companies, shops and agencies who had advertised jobs yesterday but most of the time they just put down my name and my phone number and said the manager would get back to me but I haven't heard from them so far. My emails haven't been answered as well.
However, I was quite productive yesterday! After having called all those job
That should be it for today...
I might climb down to London Below again.. I really like it! Although I usually don't read fanatsy novels.. I probably need to get a new novel tomorrow cuz I'm always reading on the tube.
Cheers!
